Since 2005, Cognitive Results has been helping police applicant be successful. Because I've learned a thing or two about the police applicant process pitfalls, I'd like to share with you five mistakes that police candidates typically make ...
#1 Underestimating the Police Aptitude Test
This is an easy mistake to make, as the aptitude tests are presented as just that. In fact, aptitude tests can be studied for and the results of studying DO increase your scores. This means that aptitude tests are not really aptitude tests, ironically. Cognitive Results now offers preparation for so many type of aptitude tests that even if your test is not listed, I can put together a custom package for you that will give you the practice you need for your test.
#2 Underestimating the Interview Process
Because everyone has interviewed for a job at some point in their life, it's super easy to think that the police interview is going to be in your realm of known experiences. It is, in fact, not. Not only is the WAY that you answer the behavioural questions different than even regular behavioural interviews, but as well the unwritten sub-text of the interview is different. Cognitive Results trains you not only on what to expect, but how to approach the questions along with information on the sub-text. Our teaching and videos are super clear and make this complex process understandable and easy to master with some work.
#3 Getting Overconfident
The folks attracted to this type of job have healthy egos and are used to mastering whatever they try to do. Unfortunately, even my clients will get cocky from time to time because they sail through each stage. My one piece of advice in all of this is: Remember your roots and where you came from. Stay humble.
#4 Second-Guessing and Losing Confidence
At first this seems opposite to #3, but once the ego is tamed and you're really far into the process, you can really start doing a number on your self-confidence. Let me emphasize this:
Those who are successful at policing have the most stamina. Giving up is not part of their vocabulary.
#5 Using Ineffective or Inefficient Teaching/Coaching
There are no standards in this business, and there are no ways to prove claims on the internet. You have to trust the person running the website has YOUR best interest in mind. Cognitive Results is built on INTEGRITY and RESULTS. Every test is custom hand-built, not pulled from general banks. We offer test preparation that is not available anywhere else (because they would be too involved to create for others). Interview information is updated regularly. The information presented is very current and geared towards your success. We want you to be successful because that's how we grow - word of mouth from happy and satisfied clients.
Knowing all of the pitfalls does not necessarily mean you will avoid them, but hopefully you can see a little clearer and rest assured - we have your back.
