The OACP Certificate is the first step in the Ontario police hiring process.

It confirms that you have completed the standardized cognitive and personality testing required before submitting your application to police services in Ontario.

This page provides a brief overview of the OACP requirements so you understand the process and what to expect.

The OACP Certificate typically involves:

  • Cognitive testing
  • Personality assessment
  • Vision and hearing requirements
  • Documentation and identification steps

Most police services in Ontario requires you to present a valid OACP Certificate at the application stage. OPP will perform the same testing after the interview is passed, but doesn't require an OACP Certificate to apply.

The OACP cognitive exam portion evaluates:

  • Logic and reasoning
  • Observational accuracy
  • Reading and comprehension
  • Problem-solving
  • Police-relevant cognitive abilities

An additional personality component is also required as part of the certificate process.

Preparation ensures that you understand the format, time limits, expectations, and scoring structure used in the OACP framework. Our programs are based on the fact that research has shown that practicing under similar conditions to the real test will improve test scores.
