Two Types of Police Interview Systems
Police services use one of two interview systems: Essential Competencies Interview (ECI), and Blended Interview. The police services switch between the two types of Ontario police interviews. It would be best if you prepared for both types. We have a more recent blog post on the Interviews and how they combine behavioural and situational questions along with the blended values questions.
ECI Police Interview
The ECI system has several pre-defined stages: PBQ, LFI, and ECI.
Firstly, the written PBQ (Pre-Background Questionnaire) is for screening applicants. There are short-answer questions, along with one or two written paragraphs required to demonstrate your English skills.
Secondly, the oral LFI (Local Focus Interview) is based on your knowledge of the service and the community it serves, along with an overview set of personal questions.
Thirdly, the oral ECI consists of behavioural questions with defined ideal answers.
Blended Ontario Police Interview
The Blended Interview system also has a prior PBQ, but during the oral interview, it combines the LFI and ECI questions. Also, with the process completed within one day, this is a quicker system. With our training, you will be able to recognize what question is really being asked in this less-defined police interview system.
